document shall be used to govern the University of Washington student
organization Washington Open Object Fabricators (WOOF 3D)
Objectives
1) Provide assistance and support for students building their own 3D printers2) Provide a manufacturing service to UW related organizations that require unique and customized parts
3) Increase public awareness of 3D printing and additive manufacture technology
4) Research and develop 3D printing/additive manufacturing technology under the Creative Commons License for the benefit of all
2012 - 2013 School Year - How we are addressing these Objectives
1)
* Offer a specified time each week for an open workshop where
knowledgeable members will be present to provide assistance for those
who need help.
* Offer the opportunity for members to participate in club builds of the Grawmet style printer
~ This includes pre-scheduled times for that specific build
2)
* Keep several trained members who respond to requests for parts and
who complete said parts promptly and satisfactorily for a pre-arranged
fee
3) Participate in various social events throughout the year including:
* Dorm demonstrations
* Mini Maker-Faire
* Seafair Milk Carton Derby
4) Work on large research projects throughout the year - Blog research under Creative Commons
* 3D4D Challenge
* Filament Extruder / Recycling waste plastic into printable material
* Large DIY printer

Group Organization
Teams:
Administrative
In charge of the non-technical details, those associated with running WOOF
Includes:
* Communication (within and without)
* Scheduling
* Fundraising
* Accounting
Meets: monthly (or as needed)
Run by: President and Director of Operations
Comprised of: President, Director of Operations, Treasurer, Member Organizer/ Human Resources, Heads of Public Relations and Technical
President:
* Provides leadership for WOOF
* Is the Tie-breaker on decisions (has final say)
* Signs all Thank You Letters to Donors and Sponsors
* Completes all RSO registration and is the main contact for SAO
* With the Director of Operations is in charge of the e-mail address: woof3d@uw.edu and must forward any received e-mails to the appropriate members to be addressed
* Is responsible for any unfilled positions in: D. O., Head of P.R. and Head of Technical
*Must Be:
~ Knowledgeable about 3D Printing
~ Have and provide a strong vision for the club
Director of Operations (D.O.):
* Head of Administrative
* Runs the club - makes final decisions on club activities unless overruled by the President
* Provides the framework and leadership for the club to run smoothly
* Is responsible for any meetings related to the Administrative Team get on the WOOF calendar promptly
* With the President is in charge of the e-mail address: woof3d@uw.edu and must forward any recieved e-mails to the appropriate members to be addressed
* Is in charge of maintaining the officer's e-mailing list: e-mail list
* Is responsible for the jobs of any unfilled positions in the Administrative Team
* Must Be:
~ Organized
Treasurer:
* Runs the accounting group that maintains the club treasury
* Is in charge of any money coming in or out of the club account
* With the Member Organizer is in charge of obtaining club dues and keeping track of who has paid
*
With the Club Build Leader is in charge of obtaining payments for build
materials and keeping track of who has paid and who has received their
parts
* In charge of taxes and being aware of what taxes are need to be paid
* Responsible for any finance related jobs
* Responsible for fundraisers
* In charge of reimbursements for pre-arranged items bought for WOOF by members
*
Is responsible for keeping track of donors and sponsors and ensures
that appropriate Thank You Letters are sent by the President
* Must be:
~ Trustworthy with numbers
~ Understand - or able to figure out - tax law and other important finance related items
Member Organizer (M.O.):
* In charge of the list of members (which includes who has paid/not paid dues)
* In charge of the contact information of members
* With the Photographer and Webmaster is in charge of getting member profiles up on the WOOF site
* Is the first contact for members
* Is responsible for keeping members active with the club

Is responsible for (with appropriate officer position) of ensuring that
any events related to general membership be placed on the WOOF calendar
* Is in charge of planning general member meetings
* If the Volunteer Organizer position is unfilled, is responsible for the V.O.’s duties as well

Public Relations
In charge of the items associated with the public front of WOOF
Includes:
* Website upkeep
* Photography (of all events, projects, and members)
* Video (of all events and projects)
* Publicity
~ News articles (written by WOOF members)
~ Press releases (to outside News entities) and answering News inquiries
* Runs Outreach Events
Such as:
~ Maker Faire
~ Rushing events
~ Booth related events
* Posters
Meets: Quarterly (or as needed)
Run by: The Head of Public Relations
Comprised of: Head of Public Relations, Webmaster, Photographer, Volunteer Organizer, Publicist
Head of Public Relations (P.R.):
* Provides leadership for P.R.
* Gives final decisions for P.R. unless overruled by D.O. or President
* Participates in monthly administrative meetings
* Required to be aware of all P.R. activities
* Is responsible for ensuring any meetings related to the P.R. Team get on the WOOF calendar promptly
* Is responsible for the jobs of any unfilled positions in the Public Relations Team
2012-2013 Head of P.R.: To Be Filled
Webmaster:
* Runs both club website and blog
* Is responsible for keeping both up to date with all important information and member profiles
* Works with Photographer to obtain and maintain current photos and videos of important club events/projects on-line
* Has access to the UW Netid: woof3d in order to have access to various on-line accounts
Photographer:
* Is responsible for ensuring that photos and video are taken at all WOOF events and important projects
*
Is the contact for getting images and videos taken by members and the
public while also obtaining the appropriate permissions to use said
images/videos
* Is in charge with Member Organizer of obtaining pictures of all members for their member profile
* Has access to the UW Netid woof3d in order to have access to critical online accounts
* Must Be:
~ Willing to always bring an acceptable camera to WOOF events
~ Able to provide and operate a video camera when needed
~ Able to either attend all events or ensure that someone is available to play Photographer in their stead
2012-2013 Photographer: To Be Filled
Volunteer Organizer (V.O.):
* Is in charge of all outreach events
* Is in charge of organizing volunteers to help with running those events
* Is the point of contact for event coordinators (ie working with Seafair)

Is responsible for ensuring that any outreach events (and subsequent
planning meetings) are placed on the WOOF calendar upon confirmation of
attendance
* If unfilled, this position is run by the Member Organizer

Publicist:
* Is responsible for all publicity items including:
~ News articles and research written by WOOF being published appropriately (with appropriate Leaders from the Technical Team)
~ Press releases for outside entities
~ Posters and other advertising medium (physical or digital)
~ Other marketing media
* Is the main press contact
*In charge of checking public documents for technical accuracy.
* Must be:
~ Skilled in photomanipulation and other means of graphics creation
~ Skilled in Technical Writing/Communication

In charge of all projects and runs the build days and workshops
~ ensures that knowledgeable members are present at the build days / workshops

Materials Officer:
* In charge of all club materials
* In charge of maintaining an accurate inventory
* Maintaining club tools
Club Build Leader:
* Is responsible for all group builds (past, current, and future)
* Provides opportunities for non-build students to get help on their personal printers if requested for
* Provides a stable and reliable schedule of build days
* Is in charge of planning any printer-related workshops
* Is responsible for ensuring that knowledgeable members are present at all build days or general open workshop

Filament Extruder Leader (F.E.):
* Is responsible for the Filament Extruder and Plastic Recycling Project including:
~ Scheduling
~ Organizing
~ ensuring that all research is published under Creative Commons with appropriate the people credited
* Is responsible for ensuring that any F.E. meetings are placed on the WOOF calendar
* In charge of any sub-leaders in this group
2012-2013 F.E. Leader: To Be Filled
UW 3D Printing Services Leader (UW P.S.):
* In charge of the group making to order parts for UW groups
* Responsible for initial and final communications with client
* In charge of lining up project worker(s) to build requested product
* Responsible with the Treasurer for receiving payment from the client for services rendered
* Responsible for ensuring that appropriate materials are available for the manufacture of product
* Responsible for ensuring that all manufacturing equipment are operating efficiently and to full capacity
* Responsible for all aspects dealing with running the 3D Printing Services
2012-2013 UW P.S. Leader: To Be Filled
ME 495/498 Leader:
* Responsible for the annual ME 495 capstone 3D printing-related project and related ME 498 course
* In charge of all related aspects of running a ME 495 course including:
~ Staying in touch with Faculty Advisor
~ Making sure that all appropriate course requirements are met
~ Making sure that all project requirements are met
~ Scheduling
~ Organizing
~ Obtaining student participants according to ME 495 criteria

Vocabulary:
* “Responsible” allows for delegation of the specified job* “In charge of” means that officer only (preferably) must complete the specified job
Notes:
* All listed positions are filled on a volunteer basis. If multiple members wish the same position and cannot come to a consensus, then a vote will be had by all other officers for the appointment of the debated position.* Members may hold multiple positions but are responsible for all jobs listed under held positions.
* All positions must identify and begin training their successor(s) in January
* Positions are held from the end of Spring Qtr (starts Summer Qtr) through the following Spring Qtr (of the next year) ~ One year of office: unless renewed by that officer
* All officers are in charge of handing off the appropriate tools to their successor (this includes account(s) access and physical or digital documents)
* All officers are in charge of rescinding the retired officers’ access to their tools by Fall Qtr
~Unless the retired officer agrees to stay on as an advisor for the position
* An officer may be determined unfit for the position by a majority vote by the other officers
~The Faculty Advisor(s), President, or D.O. can suggest and raise support for this vote to occur
* Dues shall be $20 annually and allows access to club resources

General Members
The Rules of WOOF (in Regards to Safety)
General
1)Only those whose picture is up on the wall can use the WOOF workroom.
2) Common Sense - use it
3) A First AID kit must be maintained in the workroom and the location known by everyone
A list must be kept with a note of what was used and when to facilitate refilling
4) If an officer tells you to stop - you must stop and reassess how to finish your task in a more safe manner.
5) If you do not know what to do ask someone.
6) Tie your hair back
7) No jewelry or neckties
8) Be careful using sharp tools. Aim away from your face.
9) Don’t work alone.
10) Clean up your mess.
11) Closed-toe shoes must be worn.
Drill Press
1) Wear Eye Protection
2) Clamp your part. Do not try to hold it by hand.
3) Tie your hair back
4) No jewelry or neckties
5) Don’t drill into the metal drill bed
6) Clean up when you are finished
Soldering Iron
1) Don’t set the iron down on the table. Use the stand.
2) Don’t leave the iron unattended
3) Make sure the iron is cool before putting away.
Big Red - Special training required!!!
1) Do not attempt to use Big Red unless you have been trained. An officer must be present.
1) The machine must be unplugged before anyone is allowed within the cage.
2) The machine must be turned off when done.
3) No standing in the build area or on the build platform.
4)
The operator of the machine must make a verbal announcement when
instigating motion, and must ensure that other members are aware of the
machine’s impending movement.
